Eighty-two of the 100 students were found to have multibacillary disease despite several months of monotherapy (Dapsone). Of this number, one was suspected of being infected with a resistant strain but this was negated by an adverse finding by the Leonard Wood Memorial at Cebu City. (Author)
The study aims to evaluate 100 students in a Tala (Novaliches) school as to bacillary load and activity; determine possible presence of Dapsone resistance using mouse foot pad inoculation studies; establish a skin clinic at RITM to test the multidrug regimen program of the WHO among these entrants while doing ultrastructural studies of the M. leprae before and after therapy.
